Concert: Christopher Hall and the Comic Quartet (Thu. 1 Feb, 2018 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm)

The whole family will enjoy this unique event coming to the C2 on Thursday, February 1, 2018 - a stand-up comic’s guide to the orchestra...

In this music and laughter filled chamber music show, Christopher Hall – accompanied by the acclaimed Strathcona String Quartet, demystifies the rather formal world of chamber music. You’ll enjoy great classics of the quintet repertoire as well as the often hilarious anecdotes  behind the music. Whatever you do, DO NOT take this man seriously!

Christopher Hall is the former principal clarinet of the Orchestre Métropolitain in Montréal. He found work in the orchestra far too serious! So now, instead of joking around while sitting in the orchestra, he performs as a stand-up comedian, and does various television and radio shows in both English and French.

In the past three years, he has performed his acclaimed concert ‘Comic Orchestra’ throughout Canada alongside some of the best symphony orchestras in the country. He has appeared in such prestigious Comedy festivals as the Just for Laughs, The Winnipeg Comedy Fest, and the Grand Rire in Québec City. In 2010, he had the honour of hosting Whoopi Goldberg’s show in Québec City as well as performing opening acts for several prestigious North      American comedians.

With the attitude “Everything you’ve always wanted to know about the orchestra but were afraid to ask,” and surrounded by the musicians of the quartet, Christopher Hall will be your guide to the mysteries of the symphony orchestra.

He is delighted to answer the audience’s deepest questions, such as:

“What exactly is a musician thinking while he is playing?”

“What’s the difference between contemporary music and a migraine?”

And THE killer question: “Do you really even need a conductor?”…

To complete the show, the Comic Orchestra will present one thousand years of music in 15 minutes! Novices and music lovers alike will enjoy the magical mix of music and fun! The program features Britten’s The Not so Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra as well as excerpts of Mozart’s famous Clarinet Concerto and great classics by Beethoven, Bach, Tchaikovsky and others.
